A distinctive and valuable component of Hungary’s big game population, the mouflon is found primarily in the country’s hilly and mid-mountain regions. Its rut, known as the breeding season, takes place in November, although in many areas it begins as early as October. Stalking mouflon is a serious physical challenge due both to its habitat and to its alert, constantly moving nature. Mouflon hunting combines well with winter female game hunting and wild boar hunting.
Excellent mouflon populations are present in several parts of the Transdanubian Mountains, where they can be hunted successfully. In recent years, several rams with horn lengths exceeding one meter have been taken.
In northern Hungary, however, the population is steadily declining due to the increased presence of wolves, and game management involving mouflon is becoming increasingly uncertain.
Hunting lodge accommodation and full board are available on all hunting grounds we recommend.
