Red Stag Hunting During the Rut

“There is no forest more beautiful than a September beechwood with silver trunks, and no game more beautiful than the Hungarian stag bugling within it!” — Count Zsigmond Széchenyi

In Hungary, the red stag hunting season traditionally begins at the start of September. The rut is the highlight of red stag hunting, and on most of our partner hunting grounds in the Rába Valley, the Marcal Basin, and the Bakony region, it usually peaks around mid-September. All of these areas hold outstanding red deer populations, thanks to which our guests return home without a trophy only in exceptional cases. Hunting is always conducted in the traditional manner: individual stalking and stand hunting, by daylight and at legal shooting light. Hunting lodge accommodation and catering are available on most hunting grounds. Upon request, we also arrange wellness hotel accommodation, other external lodging, airport transfers from Vienna or Budapest, and full-service organization.

Hungary’s red deer population is unique in the world, both in terms of quantity and quality. The proportion of red deer trophies taken in Hungary that rank on the world list is exceptionally high relative to the country’s size, which is the result of long-term, sustainable game management practiced over large areas.
